About Me

My name is Guelda Redman. I am the mother of one of the bravest people I know. My son developed Schizophrenia in his late teens and was diagnosed in his early twenty’s. I am lucky that he found a medication that helped him function in life sooner than some. Some are still searching and many believe they don’t need it because one of the symptoms of Schizophrenia is Anosognosia which is a lack of insight and causes those affected to believe that they are not ill. My son is lucky because he has had advocates that walked this journey with him. Others are not so lucky. Our cities are filled with homeless, many of whom are suffering from a severe mental illness and without the insight to know they need help and seek it, they are left to live their own kind of hell on the streets. Our streets and prisons are filled with mentally ill people who desperately need someone to speak out and advocate for them. I want to educate, advocate and irradicate the stigma they face and raise awareness for what they are actually going through.
